PRESS RELEASE - - Tulare County Registrar of Voters, Michelle Baldwin, is releasing the Tulare County Elections Update.
The Tulare County Registrar of Voters started the Official Canvass process of the May 21, 2024 Congressional District 20 Special General Election. Unofficial tally results can be found posted on our election website www.tularecoelections.org.
We processed 1,638 ballots. Estimated remaining ballots to be processed are as follows:
107 Unprocessed Ballots that are damaged, need to be duplicated or require further review.
Legislation requires counties to process ballots that have been received and postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service or a bona fide private mail delivery company by the seventh (7th) day after Election Day.
Election Code 3019 went into effect on January 1, 2016 and now requires the Registrar of Voters office to allow eight (8) days after an election for an unsigned vote by mail ballot to be counted if the voter submits or comes into the office and signs the envelope ballot statement. Our office will contact the voters advising them that they have eight (8) days to sign their ballot statement.
Senate Bill 759 eliminates the prohibition on counting a vote-by-mail ballot if the signature on the identification envelope does not compare with either the signature appearing on the voter’s affidavit of registration. SB 759 requires, among other things, the elections official to follow specified procedures to notify the voter and allow the voter an opportunity to verify (cure) his or her signature before certification of the election.
California Law requires that the Election be certified by June 28, 2024.
