As of January 2002, any voter may request permanent Vote by Mail voter status. This means that you would automatically receive a Vote by Mail ballot by mail for any election in which you are entitled to vote. You can remain a permanent Vote by Mail voter for as long as you wish. However, failure to return a voted Vote by Mail ballot for two general elections (EC 3206) will cause your “permanent Vote by Mail” standing to be canceled, and you would have to vote at your local polling place or reapply for permanent Vote by Mail status.
Vote by Mail and Mail Ballots can be returned through the mail or dropped off in person. You can drop your ballot off at any polling place on election day, or at the Elections Office up to 30 days before the election. Alternatively, there are two 24-hour drop boxes available for ballot returns; one in front of the Elections Office, and one at the Visalia Court House.
